Marte Thompson
My early background in natural history is reflected in the naturalistic realism and subject matter of my work, in my landscapes and seascapes, my native American portraits, and even in my fantasy illustrations. It also explains why I have been an artist in the videogame world, where the ability to draw naturalistically and imaginatively continues to be a valued talent. I have used the common term, “Romantic Realism” to describe my work, but I coined, and prefer the term “Romantic Naturalism,” because it puts the emphasis on nature. Like most artists, I tend to be a dreamer rather than a realist.
I know that I can never achieve anything close to the actual beauty of nature, but I try to express my deep and enduring love of the natural landscape.
