Al & Friends

Monterey, California

Al & Friends is a nonprofit dedicated to serving hot, nutritious meals to the community’s most vulnerable residents. For over a decade, Chef Al Siekert and his team have provided a warm, brunch-style breakfast every Sunday, fostering care and connection.
Through a wonderful partnership, Arts4MC’s Arts4Healing program adds the transformative power of music to this heartfelt initiative. Talented musician Peter Meuse brings lively and uplifting melodies to Al & Friends, creating a joyful and healing atmosphere as meals are served and shared.

Set Free Monterey Bay

Monterey County

We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work with Set Free Monterey Bay (SFMB), an organization dedicated to supporting survivors of sex trafficking in Monterey County. According to Ashley Chesney, SFMB’s Executive Director, residents participate in classes designed to equip them with essential skills and coping strategies to rebuild their lives after exploitation.

As part of this vital work, Arts4MC proudly offers a weekly Arts4Healing program led by our certified teaching artist. Through this art class, residents are empowered to process their trauma and take meaningful steps forward on their journey to healing.

Sun Street Centers

Marina, Gonzales & King City, California

Since 2020, Sun Street Centers dedicated to preventing addiction and supporting recovery, partners with Arts4MC’s Arts4Healing program to provide impactful arts experiences.

At their Gonzales and King City locations, first-time offenders in the pre-diversion program use art to develop emotional tools and resilience. At the Pueblo Del Mar Family Recovery Community in Marina, families engage in creative projects led by Teaching Artists, fostering healing and connection in a supportive environment.

Seniors at CHISPA

Salinas, Marina, and Monterey California

Art provides seniors with a meaningful way to navigate the challenges of aging. At several CHISPA senior housing complexes, Arts4MC teaching artists host weekly art classes that offer a warm and supportive environment for creativity and connection.

These sessions not only help seniors develop or rediscover skills like painting, jewelry making, and embroidery but also foster friendships and boost confidence. On a recent visit, we were delighted to see apartments adorned with residents’ artwork—a testament to the joy and fulfillment these classes bring each week.

“Art is good for the mind and food for the soul.”

Youth at Community Day High School

Seaside, California

Art and music programs are essential for nurturing young minds. Research shows that the arts enhance academic performance, improve memory, and stimulate cognitive growth.

Recognizing these benefits, the Arts Council brings art programs to youth at Community Day High School. Arts4MC’s teaching artist integrates music into the classroom, using it as a source of inspiration while students create. By encouraging them to work at their own pace, the program fosters a natural flow of creativity and self-expression.

“Art is relaxing. I only get art here; no opportunities at home.”

Veterans Transition Center

Marina, California

This program offers veterans transitioning from homelessness a meaningful creative outlet to support their journey. By fostering resilience and inspiring a renewed sense of hope and possibility, it empowers participants to rediscover their potential. In partnership with the Veterans Transition Center, Arts4MC’s teaching artist leads hands-on learning sessions and guide veterans in the creation of personal art projects, encouraging self-expression and growth.

“The paintbrush allows the inner me to come out.”
