Standing Up for the Arts
As the designated State-Local Partner of the California Arts Council (CAC) and a member of California for the Arts and Americans for the Arts, Arts4MC is committed to championing the arts and arts education at every level—local, state, and national.
The arts make a big difference, especially here in Monterey County, where the creative sector contributes an impressive $1.5 billion to our local economy. A vibrant arts community not only sparks business activity and attracts tourism but also strengthens the workforce and broadens the tax base. Beyond the numbers, the arts have proven to be a powerful and sustainable way to revitalize rural areas, cities, and communities navigating economic challenges.
Thanks to funding from the County of Monterey, the Arts Council is proud to give back by regranting approximately 60% of these funds through programs like our Community Arts Grants and Individual Artist Grants. These grants directly support local artists and arts organizations, helping to bring more creativity, connection, and inspiration to our community.
Please help us retain this funding by expressing your support of the arts to our County Supervisors:

Arts Education
Proposition 28: All Schools Should Have Arts Programs
Did you know?
Prop 28 guarantees almost $1 billion annually to enhance arts education in California public schools. This funding is meant to EXPAND arts programs, not REPLACE current funding.
For Monterey County’s 2024-25 school year, Prop 28 has invested approximately $12,739,610 for public and charter schools.
This is a historic opportunity to ensure all students have access to quality arts education.
Questions to ask your school:
- How is your school using Prop 28 funds?
- How are decisions about arts funding being made?
- What arts education programs will be prioritized?
- How can parents and students be involved?
Make sure your school takes full advantage of this opportunity to enhance arts education!
