For me, art is the way I understand and communicate with the world. Art is life and Life is art – inspired by experiences and impressions, and creating memory, relationship, and community. Art/Life also happens with moments. Wave/sea water paintings were created based on my experience of working in collaborative educational projects for revitalization of the Tohoku region where the North East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami hit in 2011. The process in wave paintings is uncontrollable- much like the Tsunami. Over and over I traced my steps down to the ocean taking a single piece of paper that I painted sitting high up on the beach where I could imagine the rising of the sea as the Tsunami came near the people of Tohoku.
