Last Friday, the Walter Lee Avery Art Gallery in Seaside was filled with excitement for the inaugural Open Studios Art Tour (OSAT) Special Exhibition artist reception! It was incredible to see so many of the talented exhibiting artists gathered together, admiring their own work alongside that of their peers.
The atmosphere was truly electric, with guests fully immersed in the experience. Many were using their OSAT Magazine Guides to bookmark their favorite artists from the work on display. We’re also thrilled to announce that a piece by first-time exhibitor and Salinas photographer, Cristal Hamer, was sold right at the reception! This incredible moment perfectly captures the spirit of this event, which, for many artists, is an important step in their creative journey. As participating artist Sean Roney shared on Instagram before the event, “This is the very first time I have artwork displayed in the Monterey Bay, so this is a huge accomplishment for me… I’m optimistic about my art path.”
We at the Arts Council for Monterey County are so thrilled to offer this unique exhibition for the very first time. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get inspired by the talent in our community before the official Open Studios Art Tour on October 12th & 13th and October 19th & 20th. Even after the tour, you can come back to relive the experience and reconnect with the work of the artists who inspired you.
We encourage everyone to stop by and experience this incredible collection in person, get inspired, and support our local artists! The exhibition is open now through November 6th, Monday – Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A special thank you to Sandra and the City of Seaside for their incredible help in coordinating this wonderful exhibition. As Mayor Ian Oglesby said, “It is an honor to have all these local artists exhibiting at the Avery Gallery.” We can’t wait to see you there!
