Chamber Music Monterey Bay opens its landmark 60th Anniversary Season with the internationally acclaimed Maxwell Quartet, one of Scotland’s leading chamber ensembles. Renowned for its compelling performances and distinctive blend of classical masterworks with traditional Scottish folk music, the Quartet has earned international praise for its adventurous programming and expressive musicianship. The New York Times described the ensemble as “eloquent performers who bring the same sense of charisma and sense of adventure to their programming.”
The evening begins with the Maxwell Quartet’s own arrangements of traditional Scottish folk music, celebrating the ensemble’s musical roots. The program continues with Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 2, Company, followed by Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet No. 9 in C Major (“Razumovsky”), Op. 59, No. 3. After intermission, the Quartet concludes the evening with Dvořák’s richly lyrical String Quartet No. 13 in G Major, Op. 106, one of the composer’s most celebrated chamber works.

The concert will be preceded by a 30-minute pre-concert talk by Chamber Music Monterey Bay Artistic Director Luke Fleming beginning at 6:30 PM. These engaging talks offer ticket holders valuable insight into the evening’s program and enhance the concert experience.
Single tickets and season subscriptions are on sale now. Chamber Music Monterey Bay’s Kids Up Front & Free! program offers free tickets for young music lovers (grades 3–12) and music teachers. Discounted tickets are also available for college students and active members of the military.
