Chamber Music Monterey Bay is delighted to welcome acclaimed pianist Jon Nakamatsu for a captivating solo recital as part of our 60th Anniversary Season. Internationally recognized for his elegance, power, and expressive artistry, Nakamatsu rose to prominence after winning the Gold Medal at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1997—the only American to earn this distinction since 1981. For more than three decades, he has performed with leading orchestras and appeared in the world’s most renowned concert halls, earning praise for performances of remarkable depth and sensitivity.
The evening’s program journeys across more than two centuries of piano literature, from Bach’s timeless chorale preludes and Beethoven’s beloved “Quasi una Fantasia” sonatas—including the iconic Moonlight Sonata—to contemporary works by Elena Ruehr and Vivian Fung. The recital concludes with two of Chopin’s most profound and imaginative masterpieces, the Polonaise-Fantaisie and the Fantaisie in F Minor.

The concert will be preceded by a 30-minute pre-concert talk beginning at 6:30 PM, offering ticket holders engaging insight into the evening’s music and composers.
