Chamber Music Monterey Bay is honored to present the internationally acclaimed Cuarteto Casals, one of the world’s premier string quartets. Since its founding in Madrid in 1997, the ensemble has earned worldwide recognition through performances at leading concert halls including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna’s Musikverein, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and many others. Celebrated for its artistry, versatility, and historically informed performances, Cuarteto Casals continues to captivate audiences across Europe, North America, and beyond.

The evening’s program spans more than two centuries of chamber music, beginning with Haydn’s expressive String Quartet No. 23 in F Minor, Op. 20, No. 5, followed by Shostakovich’s deeply personal String Quartet No. 4. After intermission, the Quartet performs selections from J.S. Bach’s The Art of Fugue before concluding with Mendelssohn’s radiant String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1.

The concert will be preceded by a 30-minute pre-concert talk beginning at 6:30 PM, offering ticket holders engaging insight into the evening’s music and composers.
