Overseen through a powerful partnership between the City of Salinas and the Salinas Chamber of Commerce, the journey to bring these creatures here began last October during a City delegation trip to Salinas’ sister city, Guanajuato, Mexico. Arts4MC proudly sponsored local artist JC Gonzales of Urban Arts Collective to join the trip, where the group received a special invitation to host this globally celebrated exhibition. Inspired, JC returned home and immediately got to work to help this fantastical exhibit to Salinas.
Celebrating Oaxacan Roots
Featuring 15-foot-tall, solar-lit sculptures crafted by Oaxacan master artisans, the exhibit beautifully honors Mexican magical realism. Because Monterey County is home to a strong and vibrant Oaxacan presence, bringing this exhibit to Salinas is an incredible way to celebrate, connect with, and showcase the beautiful diversity that comprises our county.

Exhibition Details (July 31 – September 4, 2026):
July 31 – Grand Opening at Northridge Mall: Hosting two of the eight monumental sculptures to kick off the event.
August 7 – First Friday Opening at One Main Street: Curated by JC Gonzales, this location will feature mini replicas of all 8 sculptures, as well as an impressive collection of Alebrijes and Nahuales. Arts4MC is incredibly proud to sponsor the monumental sculpture that will be displayed here!
September 4 – First Friday Closing Ceremony: Join us at One Main Street during September’s First Friday to bid a festive farewell to these incredible creatures.
