The Magic of Art: Rancho Cielo’s Arts4Healing Program

In the lively atmosphere of the art room, Liz, an instructor at Rancho Cielo, observes her students as they participate in an Arts4Healing class. We had the opportunity to sit down with her and learn more about her students.

Rancho Cielo is a unique place where students learn in a safe and supportive environment that affirms their individuality, builds self-esteem, and fosters a sense of belonging. Arts4MC is pleased to offer an Arts4Healing Program that seamlessly integrates into the curriculum. We bring in skilled Teaching Artists who provide a creative outlet for students, allowing them to experience the benefits of the arts.

A Place to Create

As students worked enthusiastically on a multimedia collage, Liz shared, “This is one of the only chances for a creative outlet as an elective program. While students have a few opportunities to complete projects in academic courses, this art class allows them to express their creativity in an unrestricted way.”

Growing Confidence

“Students who participate in the class leave with increased confidence and are eager to share their creations with other students and staff,” Liz noted. Both teachers and teacher assistants took time to engage in the day’s artistic activity. As they worked, students would rush over with their artwork, excited to share what they had created and to see what the staff was developing. This interaction not only provides an opportunity to praise their creative skills but also fosters conversations about their current interests and the inspirations behind their pieces.

Finding Calm in Art

As the students continued to work on their collages, Liz explained how art helps them find calm. She stated, “Art brings a sense of tranquility to our students. As they engage in the creative process, you can visibly see their tension dissipate, replaced by smiles and genuine relaxation.” The art room serves as a peaceful sanctuary where students can feel at ease and happy.

Your Support Matters

Liz emphasized the importance of supporting the arts program. She explained, “Financial support for the arts program is essential for a non-traditional school like ours to offer a genuine art program for students who have been underserved in the public school system.” Your assistance is crucial in keeping this vital program thriving.

Looking to the Future

Liz has big dreams for her students. She envisions them gaining skills and confidence to create art independently. They will benefit in the long term, whether art becomes a passion, a career, or simply a tool for healthy coping mechanisms. The Arts4Healing program is about more than just making art; it’s about helping students build brighter futures.
