The Individual Artists Grant program was established to acknowledge artistic excellence, offering direct assistance to artists who demonstrate readiness to take their work to the next level, and fostering public appreciation of the role of artists in our community. This grant provides a financial stipend up to $5,000 and up to $10,000, respectively, to selected artists in the emerging and established stages of their careers who demonstrate that this support will have a big impact on their work and on our community.

Career tiers include:

  • Emerging Artists, those in the beginning stages of making their work public and engaging the larger community in their practice. Individuals at this career stage may have had a few public showings of their work but do not yet have ongoing resources or support. A total of 16 awards, up to $5,000, will be granted across Monterey County.
  • Established Artists, regularly make their work public and engage the larger community in their practice. Individuals at this level can give multiple examples of artistic and/or cultural works that have made a significant social impact. A total of two awards up to $10,000 will be granted from within Monterey County.

This annual grant is available to Monterey County artists of all disciplines.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a resident of Monterey County for at least two (2) years, and be able to provide proof of residency.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

The Individual Artists Grant program was created to recognize artistic excellence, provide direct support to artists who demonstrate they are ready to take their work to a new level, and cultivate public appreciation of the role of artists in our community. Maximum award size was up to $5,000 based on the scoring of the application, artistic quality and community impact. These grantees play an important role in assisting us in carrying out our aim of improving the quality of life for everyone in our region through the arts.
