SUMMARY:Art of Rehabilitation
DESCRIPTION:What if art could change lives? \nA powerful new exhibit at the County of Monterey Administration building in Salinas proves it can. The installation showcases work by inmates from Soledad Correctional Training Facility—videos\, audio\, poetry and visual pieces that reveal the transformative potential of creativity and rehabilitation behind bars. \nCreated through the Life on Art’s – Rehabilitation program\, these works are more than art—they’re part of a proven strategy to reduce recidivism and prepare inmates for successful reentry into society. The program complements existing education and mental health services\, giving incarcerated individuals a vital tool for self-expression and healing. \nEach piece tells a story. Hear directly from the artists themselves as they share the thoughts\, struggles\, and hopes that shaped their work. This isn’t just an art show—it’s a window into the humanity of people often unseen\, and a testament to the rehabilitative power of creative expression.

SUMMARY:PG Museum Welcomes the Festive Season with Special Events
DESCRIPTION:The festive season has begun in earnest in Pacific Grove with a host of events coming up at the PG Museum of Natural History and elsewhere. \n“Museums everywhere provide a sense of community\, and we are no different. By offering a variety of events and opportunities\, we hope to see hundreds of happy museum visitors within the next few weeks\,” said Susan\nWolfe\, Director of Development & Engagement. \nThe weekend after Thanksgiving will bring the Museum’s annual Monarch Magic Free Science Saturday\, featuring crafts\, educational materials\, and fun for the whole family from 10am-3pm. Features of note include a\nperformance by the 5Ms\, a monarch musical group\, a book reading\, and the unveiling of a new mural by local artist Jess Soriano\, which features pollinators and other native species found in ecosystems around the county. Jess will be present to answer questions\,\ndiscuss her work\, and share a special surprise about the mural’s monarch. \nOn November 30\, pop in for Museum Store Sunday\, where they are offering a special shopping experience\, including a 20% discount on selected items that are curated\, unique\, and mission related. From books to jewelry\nto artwork\, clothing\, and children’s toys\, there is always something for everyone. \nThe City of PG will follow up the weekend with their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday\, December 1 with events from 4:30-7pm\, followed by the annual Parade of Lights on December 4 from 6-8pm. \nOn December 5\, the Museum will host its final member brown bag talk of the year from 12:15-12:45pm\, where they will discuss the mystery of Monterey and Santa Cruz County’s incredibly toxic newts and extremely resilient\ngarter snakes. \nThey’ll follow that up with a wreathmaking workshop on December 6\, where attendees will be treated to two hours of fun creating wreaths on frames with local boughs\, florals\, and ribbons. They’ll also be treated\nto seasonal drinks and snacks while they create their masterpieces. \nFinally\, the Museum has partnered with local science illustrator and marine biologist Cady DeLay to do a series of tidepool field sketching workshops\, the final one of which will take place on December 14. \nAll the programs for the Museum can be found at:\nEvents — Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History and sign up at\nwww.pgmusuem.org/events. Plus\, find our outreach team at libraries all over Monterey County on Wednesday afternoons. \nThose looking to support the non-profit museum in their efforts to bring discovery\, wonder\, and stewardship of the natural and cultural worlds can do so via Monterey Gives through December 31 at:\nPacific Grove Museum of Natural History \nAbout the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History \nIn 1883\, the Museum opened its doors among the first wave of natural history museums in America. Naturalists of this era began a national tradition of hands-on science education and nature preservation\, a tradition\nthe Museum has continued for over 140 years. The Museum’s mission is to inspire discovery\, wonder\, and stewardship of our cultural and natural world. The Museum supports conservation\, scientific literacy\, co-curation\, and deep learning towards a resilient\ncommunity and sustainable future. Their work is made possible\, in part\, by the following generous donors: American Water Charitable Foundation\, City of Pacific Grove\, Community Foundation for Monterey County\, Harden Foundation\, Hayward Foundation\, Helen Johnson\nEndowment Funds\, Monterey Peninsula Foundation\, and Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund. The Museum is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday\, 10am-4pm. For more information visit\nwww.pgmuseum.org.

It’s a soulful\, powerful\, and ultimately uplifting work which will receive its first Monterey Symphony performances\,” says Ogren. \nThe program also includes Grieg’s beloved and tuneful Piano Concerto\, featuring the return of Monterey Symphony favorite Orion Weiss\, and the haunting Dream Elegy by American composer Jonathan Bailey Holland. A work he describes as ‘a somber response to events related the #blacklivesmatter movement.’ \nSATURDAY: \nAll Saturday night patrons are invited to attend a pre-concert lecture by Musicologist Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli from 6:30-7:00 PM in the Sunset Center auditorium. Immediately following the Saturday evening concert\, all ticket holders are welcome to join Music Director Jayce Ogren and soloist Orion Weiss in the lobby for a Talk Back. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine during a Q&A session with the artists. \nSUNDAY:\nThe Symphony Lobby Sessions continue this season with live music in the lobby from 1:30-1:50 PM. The November Lobby Session features Symphony principal clarinet Sarah Bonomo. Additionally\, a pre-concert lecture by Music Director Jayce Ogren will be held on Sunday\, 2:00-2:30 PM\, in the Sunset Center auditorium. \nTickets: $50 for Tier 3\, $70 for Tier 2\, and $90 for Tier 1 seats.
