SUMMARY:Seven Musicians\, Two Rarely Heard Masterpieces
DESCRIPTION:Seven Musicians\, Two Rarely Heard Masterpieces: Chamber Music Monterey Bay Opens Its 60th Season Nov. 7 \nWhen travel barriers kept the scheduled ensemble from reaching the United States\, CMMB gathered a cast of celebrated chamber musicians for an opening night built around Chausson and Schubert. \nSixty years ago\, a small group of music lovers on the Monterey Peninsula decided this coast deserved world-class chamber music close to home. On Saturday\, Nov. 7\, Chamber Music Monterey Bay (CMMB) opens its 60th Anniversary Season at Sunset Center in Carmel with a concert that could only have come together this year.\nThe ensemble originally announced for opening night was unable to enter the United States. Rather than scale the evening down\, CMMB scaled it up. Seven musicians from several generations of American chamber music will share the stage for two works that need more players than a standard quartet\, and that audiences rarely get to hear live.\nThe evening opens with Ernest Chausson’s Concert in D for Violin\, Piano and String Quartet\, Op. 21. Chausson wrote it between 1889 and 1891\, and it was first performed in Brussels in 1892 with the great violinist Eugène Ysaÿe as soloist. Its unusual scoring\, a full string quartet plus solo violin and piano\, means presenters seldom program it. The result is lush and orchestral in feel\, with the solo violin and piano soaring over the quartet.\nAfter intermission comes Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major\, D. 956. Schubert finished it in the autumn of 1828\, only weeks before his death at 31\, and never heard it played. He added a second cello to the usual quartet\, giving the music a deep\, warm foundation. Many musicians consider it one of the greatest works of chamber music ever written.\n“When we learned the original ensemble couldn’t travel\, we asked ourselves what kind of evening would truly honor 60 years\,” said Luke Fleming\, violist and CMMB Artistic Program Director\, who will also perform. “These are two pieces I’ve always wanted to bring to Carmel\, and both need a bigger group than a quartet. Having this many extraordinary friends on one stage is the reason they’re finally possible.”\nThe opening night musicians are:\nOrion Weiss\, piano\nGrace Park\, violin\nTodd Phillips\, violin\nBrendan Speltz\, violin\nLuke Fleming\, viola\nAndrew Janss\, cello\nPeter Stumpf\, cello\n“Our audiences have trusted us for six decades to bring them the finest chamber music in the world\,” said Elizabeth Brooks\, Executive Director of Chamber Music Monterey Bay. “This opening night keeps that promise. It’s a one-time gathering of artists you won’t see together anywhere else\, and it’s the right way to begin our 60th season.”\nThe concert begins at 7:30 p.m. A free 30-minute pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m. in the concert hall\, led by a musicologist\, offers ticket holders background on the composers and the evening’s program.\nIndividual tickets are $30–$75. Through CMMB’s Kids Up Front & Free! program\, young music lovers in grades 3–12 and music teachers attend free\, and chaperones pay $15. College and university students and active-duty military receive discounted tickets by calling the CMMB office.\nTickets are available at chambermusicmontereybay.org or by calling the CMMB office at 831-625-2212\, Monday through Friday\, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.\nAbout Chamber Music Monterey Bay\nFor 60 years\, Chamber Music Monterey Bay has brought world-renowned ensembles to the Monterey Peninsula and opened the door to chamber music for young people through education and outreach. The 2026–27 60th Anniversary Season features six concerts at Sunset Center in Carmel\, one more than its traditional five-concert season.\nAt a glance\nWhat: Chamber Music Monterey Bay 60th Anniversary Season Opening Night\nWhen: Saturday\, Nov. 7\, 2026\, 7:30 p.m.; pre-concert talk 6:30 p.m.\nWhere: Sunset Center\, San Carlos Street at Ninth Avenue\, Carmel-by-the-Sea\nProgram: Chausson\, Concert in D\, Op. 21; Schubert\, String Quintet in C Major\, D. 956\nTickets: $30–$75; free for grades 3–12 and music teachers\nMedia interviews: available with Luke Fleming and Elizabeth Brooks through Marci Bracco Cain\, 831-747-7455

SUMMARY:Art Meets Conservation at Pacific Grove Museum's Art on Tap
DESCRIPTION:The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History has announced another addition to its popular on Tap Series: Art on Tap. The inaugural evening will center stories from local artists about how art influences the world of conservation. “The PG Museum’s mission is to inspire discovery\, wonder\, and stewardship of our natural and cultural worlds\,” says Maya Sosa\, the Museum’s Associate Curator of Exhibits. “The bridge that crosses those worlds is often beautiful and insightful artistic work\, and we’re excited to feature three artists who make a major impact with theirs.” \nThe panel will be composed of three artists: Becca Boring\, photographer\, curator\, and founder of Women at Depth; Erin E. Hunter\, fine artist and science illustrator; and scientific illustrator Monica Loncola. Discussions on the panel will include the history of art and conservation\, modern techniques and methods to connect outside a virtual sphere with the natural world\, and a case study of how these ideas were put into practice aboard the Western Flyer on a trip to the Gulf of California. \nArt on Tap will take place on November 12 from 5:30-7:30pm\, with a happy half-hour sponsored by Dust Bowl Brewing Co. Signups are suggested as these events sell out. Registration and more information can be found on the Museum’s website: www.PGMuseum.org/events

SUMMARY:Myth Lab Monterey Bay
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nMyth Lab Monterey Bay Invites Community to Reimagine Its Relationship with the Ocean \nSEASIDE\, Calif. – Myth Lab Monterey Bay invites residents to explore the Central Coast’s changing relationship with the ocean through a participatory storytelling workshop on November 18\, 2026\, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Monterey Peace and Justice Center\, 1364 Fremont Blvd.\, Seaside. Admission is $5. \nNovember 18 workshop in Seaside combines collaborative storytelling\, ecological reflection\, and practical community action.\nParticipants become both the authors and the heroes of a new myth\, exploring how shared imagination can help a community respond to change. \n“We go together. We return together. We are transformed together.” \nCreated by William George Paul\, the workshop brings participants together to build a new community myth – a story in which the community itself becomes the hero. No writing or environmental experience is required. Participants are welcome to bring a memory\, a question\, a concern\, or simply curiosity about the ocean they love. \nThrough conversation\, symbols\, artifacts\, and shared storytelling\, participants will explore resilience\, sustainability\, and the permaculture ethics of Earth Care\, People Care\, and Fair Share. Together\, they will develop a story that connects ecological imagination with practical local action. \nDrawing on the Hero’s Journey tradition associated with Joseph Campbell\, Myth Lab shifts the focus from an individual hero to a community that faces a crisis\, discovers its collective strengths\, and emerges transformed. The workshop follows a four-part structure: Adventure – Crisis – Transformation – Action! \nAn offshore drilling rig will serve as the workshop’s central symbol. A fictional opening scenario introduces two surfers who discover oil pollution in Monterey Bay and investigate its source. As they learn of a drilling threat\, they seek answers and support\, raising questions about the coast’s future and the community’s role in protecting it. Participants will shape what happens next\, incorporating local symbols—such as sea lions and beach sand—as potential guides within the story. \nThe workshop will ask: What does transformation look like for the surfers\, their neighbors\, and the wider community? What actions could carry their story into the world? And how might a shared myth inspire care for the coast? \nParticipants will leave with a collaboratively created myth\, meaningful local symbols and concepts\, and ideas for community actions they can take. \nMyth Lab Monterey Bay is sponsored by Resilient Communities Network and Monterey Peninsula Friends Meeting. \nEvent Details \nMyth Lab Monterey Bay Flyer: https://willipaulstudio.com/pdf/Myth_Lab_Monterey_Bay_Flyer.pdf \nDate: November 18\, 2026 \nTime: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. \nLocation: Monterey Peace and Justice Center\, 1364 Fremont Blvd.\, Seaside\, CA \nAdmission: $5 \nExperience required: None \nCreator: William George Paul – willipaulstudio.com and planetshifter.com \nInformation and media inquiries: 831.224.7633
