Development Set-Aside Program

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors created the Development Set-Aside Program in 1985 to promote and expand tourism, economic and agricultural development and cultural art activities that strengthen and broaden the County’s economic base. The Arts Council for Monterey County, Monterey County Visitors and Convention Bureau and Monterey County Film Commission have been members since 1985. Funding for each agency is a portion of the prior year Tourism and Occupancy Tax. Each agency is required to be excellent stewards, contribute to economic vitality of the region, provide detailed and transparent reporting and leverage county funding with additional public, private and earned revenue.

“With the rich heritage and array of cultural activities that are offered in Monterey County, the arts are a tool for economic development as well as a resource that enhances the quality of life for the residents.”
