2017 Poetry Out Loud

Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud is a national competition for high school students that encourages them to memorize and recite great works of poetry. Winners from 4 county high schools will compete for an opportunity to advance to the state finals.

There will be live music performances by Blue Clay, a jazz trio made up of high school students involved in the Monterey Jazz Education program, and the competition will be moderated by Maddox Haberdasher. Attendance is free.

Participating Schools: Alisal High School, Gonzales High School, Pacific Grove High School, Seaside High School.

Monterey County competition winners will move on to the State-Wide competition, which takes place March 12-13, 2017 in Sacramento.
